Our Approach

The Spectrum School supports learning and development through nervous-system safety, relationship, and body awareness. Instead of focusing on compliance, we help children build regulation, connection, and engagement—skills that make learning possible and sustainable.

Our programs are trauma-informed and somatic, honoring each child’s sensory and emotional needs. We also partner with caregivers so support continues beyond the classroom.

Programs & Support

Launching Fall 2026, we will begin with an intimate cohort of five founding families, serving children ages 3–5.

This intentional start allows us to build a deeply attuned, relationship-based foundation. As our programs develop, we will expand to support additional age groups. We are currently seeking a location in Aptos, La Selva Beach, or throughout Santa Cruz County.

Child Programs

Learning experiences that support regulation, communication, and engagement through relationship, movement, sensory awareness, and play—without pressure to perform or conform.

Caregiver Support

Practical, compassionate guidance to help you understand your child’s nervous system, reduce daily stress, and create routines that work at home.

Support may also include guidance for strengthening connection within the family, helping caregivers care for their own nervous systems and relationships while supporting their child.

Workshops & Training

For caregivers, educators, and community partners who want trauma-informed, somatic tools that support regulation and learning—without shame or coercion.

Programs at The Spectrum School are evolving. We are welcoming inquiries from families who would like to learn more about upcoming offerings. If you’re interested in staying informed as programs become available, we invite you to contact us.

What makes us different
We exist to offer a supportive alternative to traditional models that emphasize compliance and behavior modification without providing sufficient attention to nervous-system safety and emotional regulation.
Here, the goal isn’t “better behavior.” The goal is a regulated, connected child who can learn, play, and participate with dignity.
Our core commitments
  • Child-centered support that honors sensory and emotional needs
  • Trauma-informed, relationship-based learning environments
  • Somatic tools for regulation, engagement, and resilience
  • Caregiver partnership—because you deserve support too
